Shortcut
Bulletin’s 26-part upgrade
programme
Shortcut Bulletin is published by Fleet
Street Publications UK. As a website model Shortcut Bulletin is hugely successful because of
its unusually comprehensive upgrade programme of 26 different products.
Here are some extracts from the full Shortcut Bulletin case study published in the members section:
The Shortcut Bulletin
free email service has collected 52,000 names and has around 80,000 names in
various subscriber lists. Readers are offered upgrades to subscription
newsletters. For example, Shortcut
Confidential, which is a mailed newsletter, has a subscription rate of £29
year, rising to £49.50 after the first year. This has around 11,000 readers.
Regular email promotions are sent to lists and most of the items
it sells are owned by the company. Third-party affiliate deals exist too, with
betting groups such as Betfair bringing
in thousands of pounds a month with their gambling related emails. This kind of
affiliate link works well for Shortcut
Bulletin because customers need these sites to bet on the tips they
receive.
Payment
for products is either by direct debit or credit card and periodical products
are debited automatically each year.
Shortcut Bulletin makes a six-figure gross profit on the publishing side of the business
after all costs. Its sales model is basically a pyramid: lots of free email
sign-ups at the bottom, low-cost newsletters such as Shortcut Confidential at the next level, followed by more expensive
products and subscriptions.
